Want to LOSE WEIGHT? Drink WINE before bed — says SCIENCE!

Trying to shed pounds but finding it difficult? It seems that scientists have discovered a delightful solution: red wine.

Researchers at the University of Ulm in Germany have found that red wine contains a compound which inhibits the conversion of energy into fat cells, a compound that's called reservatrol. But reservatrol doesn’t just stop fat storage, it also helps convert tough white fat into burnable brown fat — making it easier to shed weight.

In fact, the link between red wine and weight loss has been well-established. One Harvard study, which looked at 20,000 women over 13 years, found that those who drank half a bottle of wine per day (roughly two glasses) were 70% less likely to be overweight. Another Harvard study found that late-day drinking can reduce evening hunger and thus the desire to snack.

The benefits don’t stop there: scientists at the University of Alberta have found that reservatrol consumption provides the same benefits gym exercise by improving heart, brain and bone health.

But although we can all agree that red wine is amazing, be careful not to overindulge. Drinking too much can interfere with the way your body burns energy. According to Marc Hellerstein, PhD and professor at the University of California, Berkeley, alcohol “...has a special VIP pass to go ahead of other fuels.” This means that if you drink too much, your body will prioritize burning the alcohol and will likely store any food you eat as fat.

So, as with anything, moderation is key! And if you’re not a drinker at all, don’t worry! There’s plenty of fat-fighting reservatrol to be found in healthy fruits like blueberries, strawberries, and of course… Grapes!
