As the U.S wakes up to the news that Donald Trump has been elected 45th President of the United States of America, we have rounded up reactions from all over the world...

United Kingdom

Thanks to Brexit, the UK has not had an easy political year, but the Brits have reacted to the news with the kind of wry humor we've come to expect.

After copping a lot of criticism on Twitter, author J.K. Rowling shot back this witty reponse:

This user re-posted a now popular joke:

And this commercial site pondered whether they would be eligible for Elon Musk's mission to Mars.

Mexico

Jorge Guajardo, who was Mexico’s ambassador to China from 2007 to 2013 tweeted this:

China

This user wonders whether California will build a wall of their own, keeping Trump out of their state.

"Lol, I have a friend who says California wants to build a wall, preventing Trump"

While this user simply focused on the impact the election result will have on the global economy.

" Trump wins a State, Yen will be higher."

India:

This post from India points out that a Republican in The White House will have a very interesting impact on geopolitics all over the world.

Spain

Users in Spain have drawn comparisons between Trump and their own kind of Trump, in the form of President Mariano Rajoy.

"Spain wonders how Trump has been able to win and has Rajoy as president .."

Italy

And in Italy, users compared the outcome to the long term of their former Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi.

"And when we say we Italians: PIZZA, MAFIA AND BERLUSCONI, we will answer: DONALD TRUMP!"

"Always and only him"

Germany

"We're realizing now that we have no idea what this American president will do if the voice of anger enters office and the voice of anger becomes the most powerful man in the world," Norbert Roettgen, a member of Merkel's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and head of the German parliament's foreign affairs committee, said on Deutschlandfunk radio.

Hungary:

Politician and former Hungarian President Viktor Orbán congratulated the new President.

Netherlands

... As did Geert Wilders, Dutch politician and founder and leader of the right-wing Party for Freedom.

"CONGRATULATIONS!! @realDonaldTrump. A historic victory! A revolution! We will return our country to the Dutch!"

 France

... who was joined by Marine Le Pen, French right-wing politician and leader of Front Nationale.

"Congratulations to the new President of the United States Donald Trump and the American people free!"

On the other hand, French Ambassador to the U.S. Gerard Araud did not seem so happy: "After Brexit and this election, everything from now on is possible," Araud tweeted. "A world is collapsing before our eyes. Vertigo."

Russia

Russian twitter users quickly picked up on the fact that the Canadian website for immigration has crashed under the huge volume of requests.

"Due to the results of the elections Americans deluged Google queries about emigration to Canada"

argentina

This Argentinian user made the point that the results of the US election affect everybody, not just America.

While actor César Miguel Rondón expressed his hopes that Trump will not stick to any of his election promises.

"I hope that does Donald Trump identical to most politicians when they win: do not keep his campaign promises"

Australia

Australians were quick to offer their US friends asylum and citizenship.

While Prime Minister Malcolm Turnball issued a non-committal congratulation.

... on the other hand, Pauline Hanson, politician and founder of right-wing party One Nation was visibly pleased by the result.

malaysia

This user in Malaysia responded to concerns that Trump would try to "extinguish" Muslims all over the world.

"The global Muslim extinguished if Trump to become President"

Singapore

And Singapore simply wondered if whether Trump truly understands the political situations that are present in their part of the world.
