I made a crumb cake once that had triple the crumb, 1/3 the cake. It was glorious.

Hello CakeSpy, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog, and what inspired you to start it?

I wanted to combine my three greatest loves of writing, illustrating, and baked goods. I thought "why not start a blog?". My website has become the love of my life.

Are you involved in the blogging community - how do you attract new readers?

I like to engage with social media to draw people into my web of sweetness.

What is your earliest food memory?

Having my grandmother feed me a spoonful of chocolate frosting directly after my mom told her not to at age 2. Delicious.

When did you begin mixing your incredible illustrating skills with your cooking skills?

I've always been an illustrator, so no matter what I do, illustration finds its way in. This has always been the case, from grade school written reports to to-do lists to mailing labels--my artwork always finds its way. Using my artwork alongside my food work has proven to be quite the winning combo, though.

Tell us about Cake Spy Shop

That is my online retail store where I sell my sweet artwork, including stationery, prints, and even socks!

Who are your culinary influences?

Too many to name all of them, but a few that come to mind are Maida Heatter, Dorie Greenspan, Mark Bittman, and though it's not a real person, Betty Crocker (esp. the Cooky Book from the 1960s!).

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show what show would you choose?

Actually I'd rather make an appearance on a cartoon show as an illustrated unicorn than be on any cooking show!

What is your favorite dessert?

CRUMB CAKE. The more crumb the better! I made a crumb cake once that had triple the crumb, 1/3 the cake. It was glorious.

What are your goals for your blog? Where would you like to see it in the next year? Five years?

I'd love to have my own animated baking tv show. And make a million dollars writing more books. YES!

Anything else you would like to share?

A powerful lesson in spelling I learned in grade school. Confused about "desert" versus "dessert"? "Desert" has one s for "sand", "dessert" has two, for "sweet stuff".

Thank you CakeSpy for answering our questions and see you soon!
