Philippines - Pangangaluluwa

Pangangaluluwa is a Filipino tradition that occurs on November 1st (All Saints' Day) in mostly rural areas. Groups of children go from house to house to sing special verses in exchange for coins, treats and/or prayers. The singers, usually dressed as ghouls or in other macabre costumes, represent the dead souls who are stuck in purgatory, asking for the living to pray and release them to Heaven. Sometimes money is raised during pangangaluluwa for town events and spectacles. But as time goes on, the tradition is becoming less and less common.
