Almost Amish Oatmeal Cookies

This recipe based on an Amish one. After a few modifications you have a soft, sweet chewy cookie loaded with raisins and nuts

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup Margarine
  • 1 1/2 raisins
  • 2 1/2 Oatmeal (not quick cook)
  • 1/2 cup dark molasses
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup walnuts (optional)
  • 1 cup Sour milk
  • 2tbsp Baking soda
  • 2tbsp Baking pwder
  • 6 Cups of flour
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1tsp salt
  • FROSTING
  • 2 Cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1-2 tbsp. milk

Preparation

Step 1

Sift together flour, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Cut in margarine till it is pea size. Add sugar, oatmeal, raisins, nuts, and mix well again. Dissolve baking soda in milk, add molasses and eggs, mix thourghly. be sure there are no dry spots as this is a large batch.

Step 2

With teaspoon size amounts roll into balls the size of a walnut. Place on cookie sheet and flatten slightly. Bake at 375 until golden brown. Approx. 8-10 minutes

Step 3

Mix together powdered sugar vanilla and milk. When mixed it should be the consistency of toothpaste.

Step 4

Remove cookies from pan to wire rack . with back of spoon cover each cookie with frosting

It helps to have multiple cooling racks because it takes a little bit for the frosting to set. I usually have 5 going
