Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 - 2 cups of sugar for coating
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp cloves
  • 2 tsp ginger

Preparation

Step 1

Cream shortening and sugar together,beat in eggs,add molasses and add sifted dry ingredients.Mix well.

Step 2

Roll into 1 inch balls and dip in sugar,covering ball.
Place on baking sheet 2 inches apart.

Step 3

Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 18 minutes.

The temperature may need to be adjusted 25 degrees in either direction to compensate for different ovens,the time can also be adjusted.Bake one cookie to bgin with to ensure correct temperature and time.
