Ingredients

  • 7 ounces bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened), chopped
  • 5 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 4 eggs (whole)
  • 1 jar Nutella (not all will be used)

Preparation

Step 1

In a 2-quart saucepan combine the chocolate and butter. Stir constantly over low heat until smooth. Remove from heat. Let cool.

Step 2

In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the granulated and brown sugar with the eggs. Beat with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 2 to 3 minutes or until lightened in color. Beat in melted chocolate from step 1. Add the flour mixture from step 2 and beat until combined. Make sure not to over-beat.

Step 4

Cover the surface of the cookie dough with plastic wrap. Let it stand for 20 minutes to allow the dough to thicken.

Step 5

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Drop 1/4 cup mounds of dough onto the cookie sheets 3 inches apart (4 cookies per baking sheet). Bake cookies for 13 minutes until the tops are set. Remove from the oven and let them sit 2 minutes on the cookie sheet. Carefully transfer the cookies to the cooling rack and cool.

Step 6

Cover tops of cookies with as much Nutella as desired.
