Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 lightly beaten egg
  • 1/3 cup soft bread crumbs
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • ½ cup blue cheese

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix together beef, Worcestershire sauce, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, black pepper, soy sauce and oil until mixed. Shape into 4 patties.

Refrigerate until the caramelized onions are finished.

Heat oil over medium-high in a saucepan. Add onions and cook for 5 minutes. Add a pinch of salt, ¼ cup (60 mL) water, balsamic vinegar and sugar. Lower heat to medium-low, cover and cook for 30 minutes. Remove lid, continue cooking about 3 minutes.

When onions are halfway finished, preheat grill to medium-high.

Grill the burgers on one side about 5 minutes with lid closed. Turn and grill the other side another 5 minutes.

Place burgers on buns, top with onions and a piece of blue cheese. Garnish with lettuce and sliced tomatoes as desired.
