Great Grandma Reese's Chocolate Mint Squares

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 3 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/2 c. flour

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350. Fill skillet 1" full of water and place small saucepan into it. Into saucepan place butter and 2 squares unsweetened chocolate and melt over low heat. Beat eggs and blend in remaining ingredients except extract. Pour into greased 8 or 9 inch square pan and bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Cool

Step 2

Frosting: Blend 2 TBS butter, 1 TBS evaporated milk, 1 c. powdered sugar and 1/2 tsp. peppermint extract. Spread over cooled, baked mixture and place in refrigerator to chill till firm. You can add 1/2 tsp green food coloring.

Step 3

Topping: Melt together 1 square chocolate and 1 TBS butter in the same way as previously and spread over frosting. It will be a thin layer but it is sufficient. Chill and cut into squares.
