Ingredients

  • 1/2 medium-sized Cauliflower, cut to bite-size florets
  • Oil- for deep frying
  • Batter:
  • 5 tbsp. All-purpose unbleached flour
  • 3 tbsp. corn starch
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/4 cup & 2 tbsp. water
  • Sauce:
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1/2 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp. ketchup
  • 2 tbsp. red chili sauce
  • 4 tsp. soy sauce
  • 2 tsp. white vinegar
  • 4 tbsp. water
  • 2 tsp. corn starch
  • 2 green chilies, cut diagonally
  • 2 stalks scallions, cut diagonally (for garnish)

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan on low-medium heat.

Step 2

Add onions, green chilies, and garlic into the pan and cook until onions are light brown.

Step 3

Add ketchup and red chili sauce into the mixture and cook until oil starts to separate from the mixture.

Step 4

Add soy sauce and vinegar. Mix well.

Step 5

Mix 2 tsp. corn starch with 4 tbsp. water and add it to the mixture in the pan and cook for approximately 1-2 minutes until sauce starts to thicken. Keep sauce aside.

Step 6

To make batter, add all-purpose flour, corn starch, salt & pepper, and water to a small bowl and mix until there are no lumps in the batter.

Step 7

Coat cauliflower pieces well with the batter and deep fry until cauliflower is a medium dark brown color.

Step 8

Finish frying all of the cauliflower pieces and add it to the pan with the sauce. Toss well to coat all the cauliflower pieces completely.

Step 9

Finally, garnish with scallions and serve. Enjoy!
