Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 Tbsp instant coffee powder (optional)
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup dark corn syrup
- 1/4 cup skim milk
- 1 Tbsp margarine
- 1 square bittersweet chocolate
- 1 tsp vanilla extract or 1/4 tsp almond extract
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted for garnish

Preparation
Step 1
In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cocoa, coffee powder and cornstarch. Add the corn syrup and milk, stir until sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
Step 2
In a small saucepan, combine the margarine and chocolate. Heat over low hear, stirring, until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth, about 4 minutes.
Step 3
Add sugar mixture to the pan. Increase heat to medium high and bring to a boil. Cook, stirring for 1 minute. Stir in the vanilla until blended. Pour warm sauce over ice milk or frozen yogurt. Garnish with almonds.
Step 4
In advance: Prepare sauce as directed through Step 3. Cool to room temperature and transfer to a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks. To reheat, place sauce in a small heavy saucepan. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until warm.
