Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soft shorting (half butter)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • favorite jelly
  • finely chopped nuts
  • egg white, beaten

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375. Mix together thoroughly: shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla.

Step 2

Stir in sifted flour and salt.

Step 3

Roll dough into one inch balls. Dip into slightly beaten egg white. Roll in finely chopped nuts.

Step 4

Gently press thumb into top of each cookie to make indention. Bake for 12-14 minutes.

Step 5

Remove from oven, cool, and fill thumbprint indention with favorite assortment of jellies.
