Italin Dolls ( Struffolli)

Growing up it was always tradition to make this with my Dad. I know my girls are going to love this recipe here . Struffoli, puffy little balls of fried dough drenched in honey, are the icon of Christmas sweet in Italy.

Ingredients

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour plus more for kneading the dough
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon or orange zest
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 cup honey
  • Sprinkles for Christmas

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients but the Oil and Honey and sprinkles, and mix with hand to form a dough.

Step 2

Kneed your dough , adding flour to keep it from being sticky. Place in a bowl, cover and let rest for 30 minutes.

Step 3

Shape Dough into strands and cut into little pieces ,then deep fry in hot oil . Have a Pan of hot honey to transfer them into and mix around, then place on a plate and keep doing this, You can keep layering them on top of each other until done.

Step 4

Sprinke with your Christmas Sprinkles and Enjoy !
