Ingredients

  • 1. Pigeon Peas – 3/4 Cup (100ml Cup)
  • 2. Tomatoes – 3 (220gms)
  • 3. Curry Leaves – Few
  • 4. Fenugreek Seeds – 3
  • 5. Black Gram – 1 1/2tsps
  • 6. Mustard Seeds – 1tsp
  • 7. Cumin Seeds – 1tsp
  • 8. Red Chili Powder – 1 1/4tsp
  • 9. Turmeric Powder – 1/4tsp
  • 10. Asafoetida – 1/8tsp
  • 11. Salt to Taste
  • 12. Oil – 2tsps

Preparation

Step 1

1. Boil pigeon peas in pressure cooker.
2. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder and salt to the cooked dal.
3. Tadka - Heat a pan and add oil to it. When the oil is hot add the fenugreek seeds and black gram. Fry till the seeds start changing color. Then add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Fry till the seeds splutter. Add the curry leaves and asafoetida to the seasoning. Fry well and add the cooked dal.
5. Mix well and if required add some water to get the right consistency. Bring the dal to a boil. Serve hot with plain rice.
