Ingredients

  • 36-40 picklings cukes
  • 7 1/2 cups water
  • 5 cups vinegar
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 TB of salt
  • 6 TB dill
  • 6 slices of onions
  • 2 cloves of garlic per jar.

Preparation

Step 1

Wash and scrub cukes carefully. Cut 1/4 inch slice from blosson end of each cuke. Mix water, vinegar and salt (and sugar if you want them to be sweet with pickling spice) in a dutch oven and heat to boiling. Place dill head, onion and garlic in hot quart jars (about 6).

Step 2

Pack cukes in jars leaving 1/2 in headspace. Cover with boiling brine,leaving a 1/2 in headspace at the top. Wipe rims of jars and seal and process in hot water bath for 10 minutes.
