Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cans (15oz/ea) dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 2 cans (15oz/ea) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14 1/2 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 2-3 tsp chili powder
  • 1-2 tsp dry hot mustard
  • 3/4 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1-2 dried hot chili peppers(opt)

Preparation

Step 1

1. Cook and stir ground beef, onion, bell pepper and garlic in large skillet until meat is browned and onion is tender. Drain fat and discard. Transfer mix to 5- quart slow cooker.
2. Add beans, tomato sauce, tomatoes with juice, chili powder, mustard, basil, black pepper and chili peppers(if desired); mix well. Cover; cook on LOW 8-10hrs or HIGH 4-5hrs
3. If used, remove chili peppers before serving
