Ingredients

  • Christmas shaped cookie cutters (or any holiday theme)
  • Colored sugar for decorating
  • Frosting for decorating
  • Basic Cookie Dough Ingredients:
  • 2 1/2 cups softened butter (NO SUBSTITUTES)
  • 2 cups white sugar (granulated)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 5 cups white flour
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ****PLEASE NOTE: THE ABOVE INGREDIENTS WILL MAKE 8 CUPS OF BASIC COOKIE DOUGH BUT YOU WILL ONLY BE USING 2 CUPS FOR THE SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE. YOU CAN FREEZE THE REST OF THE COOKIE DOUGH TO MAKE MORE COOKIES DOWN THE ROAD. THE 2 CUPS REQUIRED FOR THE SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE WILL YIELD ABOUT 3 DOZEN SUGAR COOKIES****

Preparation

Step 1

To make the Basic cookie dough:

In a large mixing bowl cream the butter and sugar together.

Step 2

Add the eggs, milk and vanilla and mix well

Step 3

Combine flour, baking powder and salt and gradually add to the creamed mixture; beating just until combined

Step 4

Divide dough into four 2 cup portions, cover and refrigerate. Then you can freeze some and use some now.

Step 5

Later on when you are ready to make your sugar cookes:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

On a lightly floured surface roll out the dough to a 1/4 inch thickness and use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes.

Step 6

Place cookies 2 inches apart on an un-greased cookie sheet. You can leave them plain or sprinkle on some colored sugar.

Step 7

Bake 8-10 minutes or until edges are golden brown and then remove to wire racks to cool.

Step 8

Frost plain cookies and top with colored sugar if desired.
