- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons hot water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Step 2
Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to batter along with salt. Stir in flour and chocolate chips.
Step 3
Wrap dough up in plastic wrap and refrigerate for an hour.
Step 4
When dough is cold, remove from fridge and drop by the spoonful onto lined baking sheets.
Step 5
Bake for about 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges start to brown. Leave on sheet for 5-6 mins to cool before transferring onto cooking rack.
For healthier version, replace 1/2 the butter with plain yogurt and one cup of flour with oat flour. This dough also freezes well.
