Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup plus 2 T milk
- 6 T unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 2 T unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

Preparation
Step 1
Butter the bottoms of 12 standard-size muffin cups.
Step 2
Measure the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg into a large mixing bowl and combine them with a whisk.
Step 3
In a medium-size bowl,whisk the egg until it's froth. Blend in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Make a well in the dry ingredients and pour in the liquid mixture.
Step 4
Using a wooden spoon, mix the batter until it's evenly blended, then spoon it into the muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.
Step 5
Bake the muffins for 15 minutes on the center rack.
Step 6
Rotate the pan and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes.
Step 7
Before the muffins lose their warmness, prepare the topping. Mix the sugar and the cinnamon in a small bowl. Melt the butter and transfer it to a separate small bowl.
Step 8
Top the muffins.
