  • 2 Tbsp Yeast
  • 2 Tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Warm Water
  • 8 Cups Flour
  • 3 Tsp Salt
  • 1/4 Cup Sugar
  • 2 Cups Hot Water
  • 1/4 Cup Lard
  • 2 Cups Cold Water

Preparation

Step 1

In a cup or small bowl combine yeast, sugar and warm water. Let stand until activated, about 10 minutes. It will puff up and get frothy.

Step 2

In a large bowl combine flour, salt and sugar.

Step 3

In a pot boil the 2 cups of hot water and add lard, stirring until melted. Remove from heat and add cold water. Let cool slightly.

Step 4

Add yeast mixture to the water/lard. Stir. slowly stir in the liquid to the flour and knead for ten minutes.

Step 5

Shape dough into a ball. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

Step 6

Cross the top with your fingers and punch the ball of dough once. Separate and shape,place into greased bread pans or into buns or other shape of your choice. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.

Step 7

Bake at 400 F for 10 minutes then reduce heat to 325 F and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Step 8

Place on cooling racks in pans and grease tops with lard or butter and let cool.
