Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2/3 cup yoghurt
  • 1/2 cup butter or oil
  • sugar syrup
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp rose water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • for garnishing
  • whole almonds

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350F degrees.

Step 2

Melt butter and allow it to cool.

Step 3

Combine sugar, semolina, vanilla, baking powder, coconut, milk powder and yogurt.

Step 4

Add butter to the semolina mixture.

Step 5

Spray an 8x8 inch pan with cooking spray, pour in the mixture, smoothing the top as much as possible. Decorate the top with whole almonds.

Step 6

Bake for 30 minutes, pour sugar syrup over it while still warm

Combine sugar, water and rose water and cinnamon stick in a saucepan.

Step 8

Bring to a boil, reduce heat and allow to simmer for 20.

Step 9

Pour the hot sugar syrup over the baked basbausa.

Can be served with tea or coffee.
