Preparation
Step 1
Turn that oven to 350 degrees and let it get nice and toasty.
Step 2
Cream together the sugars and butter (make sure the butter is softened, NOT AT ALL melted, or the recipe will fail) until light and fluffy.
Step 3
Add egg and vanilla and blend in.
Step 4
Mix in a separate bowl the cornstarch, flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to wet ingredients slowly, switching to a wooden spoon as the dough thickens. Add in chocolate chips.
Step 5
Drop in half-tablespoon-sized balls onto the cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, until barely golden brown around the edges. NO LONGER THAN 10 MINUTES UNLESS YOU LIKE CRUNCHY COOKIES. Seriously. They don't look done, but they are. Take them out.
Step 6
Cool on cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then remove and put on wire rack to cool completely. Or eat them all before they get cold, that works, too.
Softened butter ONLY, no melted, not even a little.
Do NOT cook for more than 10 minutes. Don't.
