- 3/4 cup butter
- 3 eggs
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups milk

Step 1
lightly grease bottom of 3 8 in round cake pans. line bottoms of pans with waxed paper. preheat oven to 350F. in a medium bowl, stir together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. set aside.
Step 2
in a large mixing bowl, beat butter with an electric mixer. gradually add sugar, about 1/4 cup at a time. add the eggs one at a time mixing well. beat in vanilla.
Step 3
alternately add flour mixture and milk to butter mixture. spread evenly into cake pans. bake 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. cool in pans for 10 minutes the invert onto cooling racks to cool completely. Ice with desired frosting.
