Ingredients

  • 16 ounce package phyllo dough
  • 1 lb chopped nuts
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 half cup honey

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Butter the bottoms and sides of a 9 x 1 inch pan.

Step 2

Toss nuts with cinnamon and set aside.
Unroll phyllo dough.
Cut stack in half to fit pan.
Cover phyllo with a dampened cloth to keep it from drying out.

Step 3

Place 2 sheets of dough in pan, butter thoroughly.
Repeat until you have 8 sheets layered.

Step 4

Sprinkle 3 tbsps nut mixture on top.
Top with 2 sheets of phyllo
butter and nuts.
Repeat until you have 8 sheets layered.

Step 5

With a sharp knife cut into diamond triangles all the way to the bottom of the pan.

Bake for 50 minutes until Baklava is golden and crisp.

Step 6

Make sauce while Baklava is baking.

Boil sugar and water until sugar is melted.

Add vanilla and honey.

Simmer for 20 minutes.

Step 7

Remove Baklava from oven and immediately spoon sauce over it.

Let cool.

Serve in cupcake papers.

Step 8

Leave it uncovered or it will get soggy if wrapped up.
