Ingredients

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening, butter or margarine
1 egg
1/4 cup hot water
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt

Preparation

Step 1

Cream first 3 ingredients. Mix in hot water and vanilla.

Add dry ingredients and mix well.

Form into 1 inch balls and roll in brown sugar.

Place on cookie sheet and make a hole in center.

Fill hole with jam.

Bake 10 minutes. 350 degrees F.
