What's REALLY in a jar of Nutella?

Google Ads

A recent image has been spreading across social media like wildfire. Its goal? To reveal exactly what’s inside a jar of Nutella ... And the results may shock you.

It’s no secret that the popular spread was far from healthy, but no one could have guessed the contents hidden behind the familiar label.

The graphic outlined the main ingredients of nutella: palm oil, cocoa, hazelnuts, skim milk and, last but not least, sugar.

Each layer represents how much of each ingredient goes into the Nutella recipe. Contrary to popular belief, hazelnuts and chocolate comprise a just tiny part of the mixture. Sugar, on the other hand, fills more than half of the jar.

PR BATTLES

After recovering from the recent scandal linking palm oil to cancer risk, Ferrero (Nutella’s parent company) must defend itself now more than ever regarding the nutrition of its flagship product.

In any case, the company has not yet disclosed Nutella’s secret recipe. On the other hand, the nutritional information available on the jars as well as on the Nutella site reveals that each spoonful (about 15 g) contains 8.5 g of sugar. This means that each 400 g jar contains a whopping 227.2 g of sugar… And that’s what stops us from heaping Nutella on our breakfast toast.

Whatever’s inside Nutella, we still enjoy eating it... just in smaller doses. A spoonful of Nutella once in a while is enough to brighten anyone's day. After all, everything in moderation. Isn’t that what they always say?
