Ingredients

  • 8-10 apples (I use a mixture of gala, cortland, and jonathan)
  • 3/4 C. sugar
  • 4 T. cinnamon (or 4 sticks)
  • 4 T. allspice
  • 2 T. brown sugar
  • 1/2 t. nutmeg
  • 1 clove

Preparation

Step 1

Peel and cut your apples. I have a hand cranked peeler that I use for this. You can find one at home stores like Old Time Pottery for about $10 USD.

Step 2

Put apples into stock pot and just cover them with water. Add sugar.

Step 3

Wrap spices in cheese cloth and tie securely. Drop in with apples.

Step 4

Boil on high heat for 1 hour, checking frequently. Turn down the heat and simmer for an additional 2 hours.

Step 5

Take off heat and let cool as much as you prefer. Remove spices, then mash.

Step 6

Pour into cheese cloth lined strainer over a large bowl. Squeeze juice from cloth.

Step 7

Reheat and drink. You can save your leftover mush to use as apple sauce!

Serve with a cinnamon stick, whipped cream and cinnamon powder, or marshmallows.
