Why cherry juice, you wonder? It turns out that cherries have high levels of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleeping cycles and can be instrumental in making sure your body stays asleep for the time that it needs to be well rested.
The study focused on adults aged 50 and over who had been diagnosed with chronic insomnia. All of them had trouble sleeping at least three nights per week. Testing involved giving some subjects placebo substances and others tart cherry juice.
