When did you start your blog, and what were your reasons for starting a career in food?
I started my blog in 2012. It was my senior year in college, and I began working on a thesis about Southern food and how food defines the South. An editor encouraged me to create a blog around the thesis. I had no idea what was going to come of the blog, but I fell in love with sharing recipes, stories and photos of the food coming out of my kitchen!
What is your favorite part about working in the food-blogging community?
I love being connected with like-minded people from all over the world. It's great that we all have the same common interest: food. It brings us together, and I love that.
You write a lot about your childhood and growing up in Louisiana. What part of that would you say influenced you the most to follow a food career?
Growing up in Louisiana, I was surrounded by amazing food and wonderful home cooks. I thought everyone grew up with the same experience. Once I moved away from Louisiana, I realized how special my upbringing was. So, my blog became a great outlet to share those special stories with the rest of the world.
Do you have any secret ingreditns or products that help you in the kitchen?
I love using my cast-iron skillets in the kitchen. I use them almost everyday!
What is your favorite recipe of all time?
My favorite recipe to prepare for others is my Chicken + Sausage gumbo!
