Hello Oh Sweet Basil, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog, and what inspired you to start it?

I started this site 6 years ago. It all came about because my husband and I were vacationing and had our first Margarita Pizza with fresh basil. It was so wonderful that it inspired us to really get back into the kitchen and discover real food and recipes. We started cooking more and friends began asking for recipes so I decided to put our new discoveries online for all to enjoy.

Are you involved in the blogging community - how do you attract new readers?

We are very involved in the blogging community. We believe that the more we share the more we all get better together. We submit content to online photo/recipe sites like foodgawker, share links on facebook and twitter and host fun giveaways.

Who are your culinary influences?

Surprisingly enough it's actually my ancestors and family. I love discovering their recipes and the stories that accompany them. You learn so much about yourself when you learn about where you come from.

What are some simple steps families can take to reinvent their dinners?

I believe that everyone should share recipes. If you're looking to make meal time a better experience first turn to your family. What are the recipes you grew up with, what did they grow up with? Generally they are recipes that use real food and have a story along with them. Start there, and concentrate on creating traditions in your own home. Our family has always made caramel brownies and while they aren't healthy they are a fun recipe for me to make with our children and share my life with them.

What is your earliest food memory?

I can still remember when I was very little, probably 3 or 4 since it was our old house, and I was sitting on the counter helping my dad make oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies. Once we had them all on the pan he let me try a bite off of the spoon which I thought was so cool!

Is there any dish, ingredient or type of food you refuse to cook?

I really struggle with liking seafood so it doesn't appear on the site unless it's crazy delicious an I liked it as well.

When you have a last minute get together, what are your go to dishes?

We love Fried tortellini, carne asada, or pesto pasta. All are easy to make and total crowd pleasers. Actually, now that I think about it, we get gobs of requests for Honey Lime Chicken Enchiladas too.

What are your goals for your blog? Where would you like to see it in the next year? Five years?

Our only goal for the blog has been to educate and inspire. I don't ever want it to just be about money or cookbooks, fame and fortune. I mean, I'd love to one day have a cookbook, but that's a small burner goal in my opinion. The main one is just to be a resource for my friends, and readers.

Thank you Oh Sweet Basil for answering our questions and see you soon!
