Love Hour has won the hearts of Los Angeles residents, and festival-goers from across the country were able to see for themselves what makes this Koreatown spot so popular. Love Hour pairs their classic onion rings with their signature sauce. While we can’t say exactly what makes their secret sauce so desirable, fresh onion rings paired with a sweet and smoky sauce are the next best thing!
Ingredients (for 2-4 servings)
2 large onions, sliced into rings
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika (optional, for added flavor)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1 cup cold water or beer (for a lighter, crispier batter)
Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
Peel the onions and slice them into rings about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Separate the rings and set aside.
In a deep fryer or large heavy-bottomed pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F. Make sure you have enough oil to fully submerge the onion rings.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Gradually add the cold water or beer to the dry ingredients, whisking until you have a smooth, thick batter. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.
Dip the onion rings into the batter, making sure they're fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off before frying.
Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, a few at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the fryer. Fry them for 2-3 min., or until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally for even frying.
Once the onion rings are golden brown, use a slotted spoon or fork to remove them from the oil. Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain off any excess oil.
Season the hot onion rings with additional salt if desired
