Cheddar and chive biscuits bring a savory flair to any spread, combining the sharpness of cheddar with the delicate freshness of chives. Perfect for potlucks, holiday gatherings, or weeknight dinners, they’re a crowd-pleasing addition that pairs well with hearty dishes or stands alone as a flavorful snack. Better yet, they are ultra-easy to make!
Ingredients (for 12 biscuits):
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
2 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped
¾ cup whole milk, plus extra for brushing
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder (if using).
Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped chives, ensuring they’re evenly distributed.
Gradually pour in the milk, stirring gently until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch-thick rectangle. Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits, reshaping the scraps as needed.
Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Brush the tops with a little milk to encourage browning. Bake for 12-15 min., or until golden.
Let the biscuits cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm with a pat of butter or your favorite spread.
