Hello Jackie Alpers, so tell us...

When did you begin your blog, and what inspired you to start it?

My husband urged me to start a blog sharing some of the recipes that I'd been making for him for years.

How did your love of food photography start? Do you have any tips for beginners?

When I first started out as a photographer, food photography wasn't really done by photographers like me. They were very slick images made by mostly male commercial photographers. When the market for food photography changed I started to get assignments to shoot food based on my history as a fine art photographer who often used food as a theme.

What is your relationship with your food, and how do you channel it into your work?

Food is one of life's great themes. I am especially interested in the emotional, psychological and spiritual relationship that people have with food and drink. Food lends itself to vast symbolism and interpretation and I love the rituals surrounding it.

If you could be a contestant or guest on any cooking show, what show would you choose?

I'd love to host my own show where I can teach people creativity in the kitchen through fun, easy recipes.

What is your earliest food memory?

My father used to feed me raw meat. We would go to the local kosher market and get these really beautiful, fresh steaks. When we got home he would cut off a little piece, and serve it to me sprinkled with salt.

So tell us, why sprinkles? Where did you find inspiration for all of the recipes in your sprinkle dedicated cookbook?

I found inspiration in the sprinkles themselves because they are so much fun to work with and they come in so many shapes and colors. I ended up developing recipes specifically to showcase all of the amazing varieties.

What are your favorite dishes to photograph? Why?

I love documenting really weird or unique food, novelty items that you wouldn't see every day, like quadruple stacked hamburgers sandwiched between macaroni and cheese or "stack pies" which are pies literally served stacked on top of each other.

What are your goals for your blog? Where would you like to see it in the next year? Five years?

My goal is to keep making photos and recipes that people enjoy.

Anything else you would like to share?

Thanks for featuring me. This interview was a lot of fun.
