- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3 Tbsp sugar (for tops of cookies only)
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Place sugar in a small bowl.
Beat brown sugar, shortening, molasses, and egg on medium speed with electric mixer. Stir in remaining ingredients (except sugar for cookie tops).
Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls. Dip tops in sugar. Bake sugared sides up for 13-16 minutes.
Immediately remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Enjoy!
