Philippines: Kakanin

On October 31st, Pangangaluluwâ is celebrated in the Philippines, a folk tradition similar to tick-or-treating here in the USA.

Mostly in rural areas, kids and teens knock on doors and sing songs in exchange for kakanin (rice cake, a popular Filipino sweet treat made from rice, coconut milk and often purple yam. It usually resembles a layered fruit cake, and is cut into slices to be shared.
