Bananas Foster

This single-serve bananas foster skillet is a quick and irresistible dessert with rich caramel flavors and the natural sweetness of bananas. Pair it with ice cream for a truly indulgent treat that feels like a restaurant favorite, made right at home. For a non-alcoholic version, skip the rum and add a splash of orange juice or apple cider for extra flavor.

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • 1 ripe banana, sliced lengthwise or into rounds
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp dark rum (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place a small skillet over medium heat and melt the butter.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cook for about 1–2 min., stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture becomes bubbly.
  3. Add the banana slices to the skillet and gently toss them to coat in the caramel sauce. Cook for 1–2 min. per side, or until the bananas are softened and lightly caramelized.
  4. If using rum, carefully add it to the skillet and tilt slightly (away from you) to ignite, or cook until the alcohol evaporates. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Transfer the caramelized bananas and sauce to a small plate or bowl. Top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired. Serve immediately.
