Ham and Cheese Strata

This savory, cheesy strata is the ultimate make-ahead brunch dish. Layers of crusty bread, smoky ham, and melty cheese soak up a rich, seasoned egg mixture overnight, then bake into a golden, fluffy casserole in the morning. Perfect for Easter brunch or any gathering that calls for a no-fuss, satisfying meal. With its creamy, custardy texture and crispy, cheesy top, this make-ahead ham and cheese strata is an easy way to serve a crowd without any last-minute prep!

Ingredients (for 8 servings):

  • 1 loaf crusty bread, cubed
  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup chopped green onions, plus more for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and layer half the bread, ham, and cheeses. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in green onions.
  3. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread layers. Gently press down to help the bread absorb the liquid. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake uncovered for 40-45 min. until puffed and golden brown.
  5. Let cool for 5 min before serving. Garnish with extra green onions.
