Apple fritters are a fried favorite where chunks of apple are folded into sweet dough, then fried until golden and dusted with powdered sugar. Each bite offers crispy edges, soft interiors, and bursts of juicy apple. They’re a nostalgic treat often found at fairs and bakeries, but surprisingly easy to make at home. Serve warm with coffee or hot cider for a cozy snack.

Ingredients (for 12 fritters):

For the Fritters:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 apples, diced
  • Oil for frying

For the Glaze:

  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream, half-and-half, or whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.
  2. In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk. Combine with dry ingredients.
  3. Fold in the apples.
  4. Heat oil in a pan to 350°F. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the oil and fry until golden.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine confectioner's sugar, dairy of choice, and vanilla until smooth.
  6. Drain on paper towels and drizzle with the glaze.
