Nostalgic Sweet Treats That Make You Feel Like a Kid on Christmas

,
Gourmandize

These cookies are the classic, soft, melt-in-your-mouth holiday treats everyone remembers from childhood. Each warm cookie gets topped with a chocolate kiss for the perfect nostalgic bite. You can keep them traditional, roll them in festive sprinkles for extra holiday cheer, or even add cocoa powder to the dough for a deeper chocolate flavor. They’re simple, adorable, and perfect for cookie exchanges or party platters.

Ingredients (for about 24 cookies):

  • 1/2 c butter, softened
  • 1/2 c granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Optional: 2 tbsp cocoa powder (for chocolate dough)
  • 24 chocolate kiss candies, unwrapped
  • Optional: holiday sprinkles, for rolling

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy, about 2–3 min.
  3. Mix in the egg and vanilla until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. If making chocolate dough, whisk in the cocoa powder here.
  5. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Scoop 1 tbsp portions of dough and roll into balls. Roll each ball in granulated sugar or holiday sprinkles.
  7. Place dough balls on the baking sheet, spaced slightly apart.
  8. Bake 8–10 min. or until the edges are just set.
