Bad Breath

Bad breath is something no one wants to have. It can be pretty disruptive, making you feel self-conscious and worried about talking, laughing, and letting others get close to you. It can be a sensitive topic, with even friends and family shy to point it out for fear of hurting feelings. 

Bad breath is most often caused by bacteria in the mouth, which if left to linger can create foul-smelling gasses and toxins. 

Rules To Live By

On the bright side, common bad breath can be relatively easy to get rid of. Here are the rules for defeating the stink:

  • Brush your teeth: Scrub out all those naughty, stinky bacteria and say hello to a fresh, clean kisser.
  • Hydrate: Give your body plenty of water. It helps wash out the bad bacteria, and encourages saliva production (saliva contains enzymes, antibodies, and minerals that work against bad breath).
  • Slow down on sweets: Bacteria thrive on sugar, so all those sweets you're chomping are food for you... and for those stinky bacteria.
  • Stay away from tobacco, coffee and alcohol: These smell bad, and have a drying effect on the mouth. Remember, you want your mouth well-hydrated so it can rinse itself out.
  • Chew on high-fiber foods: Fibrous foods are nature's toothbrush, and all that chewing action helps stimulate saliva flow.

A Natural Mouthwash

If these tips still aren't working for you, then it may be a good idea to try using a gentle mouthwash. This natural rinse is cheap and easy to prepare at home, and if used daily can prove an effective remedy. 

Ingredients:

  • 2 lemons
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/2 tbsp. cinammon
  • 1 tbsp. baking soda

In a bowl, combine the lemon juice, hot water, cinnamon, and baking soda and mix well. Alternatively, you can also use a bottle or jar and shake well.

And voilà — you have a fresh, new, all-natural mouthwash! Take one or two spoons a day and gargle with warm water. Repeat whenever you feel bad breath coming on.

Sweet Apple Cinnamon Rolls

1 apple
Pie crust dough
1/8 cup brown sugar
1/8 cup almond powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Egg yellow(s)
Milk

 

1. Halve an apple and slice each half finely.

2. Cut the top of a pie crust to get a straight edge.

3. Spread the brown sugar and almond powder all over the dough.

4. To get the first row, line up the apples in a straight line and cut out the section. Continue until all the dough is all used up.

5. Mix egg yellow and milk and cover each roll with the mixture.

6. If you wish, sprinkle a little extra brown sugar on top of each roll.

7. Bake in the oven for 18 min at 350° F.
