Barley: 10,000 Years of History

Barley is one of the oldest grains in the world, even mentioned multiple times in the Bible. Originally cultivated in the Middle East, barley made its way to Europe around 7,000 years ago. Today, it is primarily used as animal feed or in brewing beer. However, there are many delicious recipes featuring barley, a grain that has undeservedly fallen out of favor in our kitchens.
