Ingredients (for 1 loaf):
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 packet active dry yeast (2 ¼ tsp)
? cup sugar
1 tsp salt
¾ cup warm milk
2 large eggs
4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp lemon zest
2 tbsp milk (for brushing)
4-6 colorful Easter eggs (for decoration)
Instructions:
In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 min. until frothy.
Add the eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, lemon zest, salt, and 2 cups of flour to the yeast mixture. Mix to combine. Gradually add the remaining flour, ½ cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 min. until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into three equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and braid them together.
Place the braided dough on a greased baking sheet and gently tuck the colorful Easter eggs into the braids.
Brush the top of the dough with 2 tbsp of milk for a shiny finish.
Bake for 25-30 min. or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
