Delicious Apple Desserts That Steal the Spotlight from Pumpkin Spice

Baked apple donuts are a lighter take on the classic fried treat, but they’re just as satisfying. Fresh apple pieces and warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg are folded into the batter, giving each bite a burst of cozy fall flavor. Since they’re baked instead of fried, the texture is soft and cake-like, making them perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack. A dusting of cinnamon sugar or a drizzle of glaze takes them over the top.

Ingredients (for 12 servings):

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup applesauce
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 apple, finely diced

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the sugar, applesauce, melted butter, egg, and milk.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, then fold in the diced apple.
  5. Spoon the batter into the donut pan and bake for 12–14 min.
  6. Cool slightly, then coat with cinnamon sugar or drizzle with glaze.
