This flavorful stuffing is packed with savory sausage, sweet apples, and fresh herbs. Cooking it in the slow cooker frees up your oven and keeps the stuffing moist with just the right amount of crisp on the edges. It’s a must-have for Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.
Ingredients (for 8 servings):
1 lb Italian sausage, browned and crumbled
1 onion, diced
2 celery stalks, chopped
2 apples, chopped
12 cups dried bread cubes
2½ cups chicken broth
2 eggs, beaten
1 tbsp fresh sage or 1 tsp dried
1 tbsp fresh thyme or 1 tsp dried
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
In a skillet, cook sausage until browned. Add onion, celery, and apples; sauté until soft.
In a large bowl, mix bread cubes with sausage mixture, broth, eggs, and herbs.
Transfer to a greased slow cooker.
Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours, until heated through.
Optional: uncover for the last 30 min for a crisper texture.
