Making an ad that captures the feeling of a moment in time is the dream of every marketing executive, but getting it wrong can be extremely embarrassing.

In April 2017, Pepsi tried to insert the Black Lives Matter movement, civil rights protests and the unrest of the Trump presidential campaign into an advertising campaign.  Intended to "project a global message of unity, peace and understanding", it featured controversial celebrity Kendall Jenner handing a police officer a can of Pepsi during a protest.  The tone-deaf ad caused so much outrage that it was almost immediately withdrawn.
