Orgasms: the best fun you can have for free! Get to know your favorite bodily function better with these 8 awesome facts...

1. Your main sexual organ is Not what you think

It's not the clitoris. Sure, this little nugget plays a huge rule in getting you to orgasm (or not) but the most important sexual organ in your body is actually your brain

Orgasms are more than just physical sensations— they are the result of a beautiful blend of physical, emotional and mental  sensations. When you think about it, it makes sense: when you are stressed and distracted it is much much harder to come to orgasm, and orgasms that do occur can be less intense and satisfying.

2. ORGASMS CAN replace tylenol

When we have a headache the last thing we usually want to do is have sex, but there is evidence that orgasms can be powerful pain relievers. The Tylenol effect seems to be linked to the way the body releases the chemical oxytocin during orgasm, which facilitates relaxation and other positive emotions (including bonding feelings). The pain relief may be fairly short lived, but the relaxation that typically comes after an orgasm can help to relieve muscular tension that can lead to headaches. So, there's really no excuse for getting busy in the sack!

3. men aren't the only ones that climax Prematurely

We give men a hard time about premature ejaculations (and between 20 -30% of men will do this at least once in their lives), but it isn't just men who suffer from arriving too early.

A survey of Portuguese women between the ages of 18 and 45 found that almost 40% of participants occasionally orgasm before they intend to, and a small number of those women, 3%, so it all the time.

Nevertheless, not being able to orgasm at all is a much more pressing and widespread problem for women.

4. orgasms age like fine wine

There are plenty of advantages to ageing (yes, really!) and having better and better orgasms might be one of them!

Though the orgasms themselves don't necessary change, it appears that the older and more experienced you are, the more likely you are to experience more and better orgasms. All that practice makes perfect after all!

5. You can learn to "think yourself off"

Remember what we said about the most important sex organ being the brain? Don't underestimate it's power! Thinking yourself all the way to orgasm might not be particularly easy, but with training and dedication it is certainly possible. Workshops teaching participants how to enjoy "energygasms" are popping up all over the world.

Time to ditch spin class and free up some space in our schedule!

6. An orgasm is like a piece of string

In the sense that it has no "typical" duration. Depending on how aroused you are, it could be a short, intense blast, or a shudderingly slow release. When you climax, the muscles of the vagina contract (that's the pulsing feeling you've noticed), and the number of pulses can vary a lot. A 'mild' orgasm will have 3-5 pulses whereas a very intense one can have 10-15.

7. one night stands aren't great for orgasms

One night stands are hot, passionate, fast and furious, and deliver mind-blowing orgasms, right? Er... not so much. The thrill of having sex with somebody new certainly does spice things up, but to achieve truly good orgasms, nothing compares to really knowing your partners body. A study by the Kinsey Institute found that women were two times more likely to climax when they were in a relationship.

On the other hand, having sex with a complete stranger is a great way of letting go of inhibitions, which can increase your chances of orgasm. There's no wrong answer here!

8. They can come in bunches

The famous multiple orgasm is certainly a thing of beauty, but in reality, women may be experiencing them less often than they report. A regular orgasm is typically followed with a series of "aftershocks" in which the vaginal muscles spasm, and although they are certainly very pleasurable, they aren't technically separate orgasms.
