Why You Should NEVER Give Your Cat Grapes

It may seem like a harmless treat, but this fruit is actually extremely dangerous for your feline. Find out why...

Fruit seems like a harmless thing to share, especially because we think of it as such a healthy snack for ourselves. However, not all types are safe for animals.

Grapes (as well as, of course, raisins) are one that should definitely be off the table for your feline – and kept well out of their reach.

The reason why? It can cause kidney failure. How exactly, though, is still a bit unclear.

Doctors have yet to discover the real reason why grapes have this toxic affect on cats, and on certain other animals as well, including dogs. The affect varies from cat to cat, too, being especially dangerous for pets with underlying kidney disease.

However, while there are still some things vets and scientists don't understand, the link is undeniable. A small amount of grapes, even, while potentially not enough to have damaging long-term affects, can make your feline very ill. It can cause them to vomit, have diarrhea, lose their appetite, get a stomachache, or become very weak or tired.

Some cats may not show any of these signs after consuming this fruit, so the dangers are not always immediately evident to us, or even to them. Although they're very intelligent and can be quite picky about what to eat, not all felines will recognize this as a toxic food and know to stay away from it.

So it's our responsibility to make sure they are never given it and that all of our human snacks are kept well out of their reach.

SHARE this with a cat owner so they are aware of this danger!
