This Woman Ate McDonald's For 5 Days Straight. Here's What Happened:

When was the last time you had a greasy, delicious McDonald's cheeseburger? We've heard about the dangers of eating McDonald's everyday (just think of what happened to the filmmaker Morgan Spurlock in Super Size Me). To defy the odds, this woman went on a similar mission. The goal? To see what really happens when you eat nothing but McDonald's for a week.

Diamonds are nice but McDonald's earrings (and fries) are actually a girl's best friend ????????. #????: @rubcha

Cosmopolitan Food Editor Danielle Tullo embarked on a mission that will turn everything you think you know about dieting on its head. She ate at McDonald's for five days straight. That's right: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Worried about developing serious health problems (like what happened in Super Size Me), Tullo worked with a nutritionist to come up with a meal plan featuring low-calorie alternatives to the notorious Big Mac. Day 1 consisted of an Egg McMuffin sandwich for breakfast, a grilled chicken snack wrap for lunch, and a sausage burrito for dinner.

While some of the healthier options on the McDonald's menu tasted all right, they left Tullo feeling hungry and unsatisfied. It wasn't until the third day that she scrapped the meal plan entirely, proclaiming "salads be damned."

For the rest of the experiment, she indulged in all the McDonald's offerings we've come to love — cheeseburgers, milkshakes, and (of course) their crispy golden fries. At the end of the day, she didn't gain a single pound. Instead, she found that eating a burger and fries (in lieu of an Instagram-worthy salad) was freeing and fun!

Although it's important to have a healthy diet, Tullo argues that we shouldn't feel guilty about indulging every once and a while. It's not just about the food you think you should eat, but the food you actually enjoy eating. After all, life is too short to always be worrying about your weight!

Tullo concludes her manifesto with the following advice: "If you want a damn cheeseburger, please, go ahead, eat the damn cheeseburger." Here at Gourmandize, we can't help but agree.
