Types of Sushi

There are many different types of sushi that you can get on the same plate, and it's important to know what they're called. First, there are nigiri (pronounced with a hard "g"), which are little bites of rice with a piece of fresh fish on top. This can be white fish, salmon, tuna, eel, or shrimp, among other options.

Sashimi is a dish of thin slices of raw fish, which can be a local species or other more popular ones, such as salmon or bluefin tuna.

The little rolls that we know and love so much are called maki. These can come in different sizes and come with a wide variety of fillings, from a simple piece of fresh fish to something original, such as a mixture of shrimp and fruit. They may or may not be wrapped in seaweed.

Lastly, these tasty bites should come accompanied by ginger and green wasabi, a spicy condiment a bit reminiscent of horseradish or old-fashioned mustard.
