What is an egg?

First we need to remember what an egg actually is. Eggs are small incubators in which the bird embryos mature until they hatch. They protect the young birds and provide them with food. Female birds, just like female humans, ovulate. In humans this happens about every 28 days; in birds the cycle has a different frequency. Chickens are particularly noteworthy in this context.
